Double Sketch!

Its been awhile since I did any color digital sketching. Here's a demon and a humpty dumpty, both quick Photoshop sketches.

Demons

So I realized that I haven't posted much. I also realized that my lack of posting is not only because I haven't done much non-work related drawings lately, but also because I'm too lazy too scan all of the dozens of sketches I do every week. This is also probably because none of them are great, but then again, that's the whole point of a sketch blog.

With that in mind, here are a trio of demon doodles I did on the train. Their names are Pythias, Damien, and Santos.

Head Island (pencil)

Another image in the Blood Volcano series. I've had this preliminary pencil down for a few months now, and I keep not finding time to paint it. So, I thought I'd post the pencil work because people might find it interesting to see what's under the painting.

This piece is called Fresh Recruits, and is another little piece that lives in the Blood Volcano series.This is a small (7.5"x11") gouache painting on Rives BFK tan.

First Pirate Painting of 2008!

This piece is called An Unexpected Treasure, and introduces the golem to the pirate crew of the X.M.S. Blackheart, on their journey to the Blood Volcano to seek untold riches and fortune.This is a gouache painting on Rives BFK tan.

Last Pirate Painting of 2007!

I sneaked another painting in before the end of the year. This is another painting in the "Blood Volcano" series. This one is titled The Caribbean Saves the BlackHeart. Its a gouache painting on Rives BFK tan, and is 16 1/2" wide x 22" tall.

I've been working on a lot on the Blood Volcano series of pirate paintings, but I haven't quite finished any. I have been doing some sketches on my tablet PC on the train, though. This is a sketch for "head island", done in Alias Sketchbook. This locale may make a cameo somewhere in the Blood Volcano series.

More Updates on The Kid's Book. Here a few of the interior images. They are black and white, sorta half-page images like old kid's book interiors used to be. Done with india ink, brush, and crow quill pen. They still need some tweaking, that I'll hopefully find time for.

Book Cover!

I'm doing illustrations for a children's book that my Grandfather wrote as a favor to my mom. Not my normal "cup of tea", but it gave me an excuse to break out the paints. I'm going for a old, somewhat classic "storybook" sort of feel. Kinda retro without looking like the 50's modernist stuff that I like so much. I have some black and white's to do for the interior still. The cover features "jumpy" the jumping horse and "taco" the flying dog (part of the reason his ear's are so big).

And since its been a while since I said so, fuck you, Microsoft.
