Mecha-Ape from 2005

I wanted to post something before the year's end, but I didn't finish the painting I'm working on yet. So instead I'm posting an old random sketch from 2005! It's a mecha-ape with four fingers and candy-red nipples. Not sure where I was going with this one.

Jekyl & Hyde Together Again

Below I posted the final piece, a small gouache painting (8"x10") on printmaking paper as well as a few process shots and a bunch of little doodles and sketches I did to warm up, since I had never drawn any of these characters before.

Melting Purple Cow

There's a lot of radiation in this game! Over the years, I've drawn many cows, but never a healthy looking one. I'm not sure what I have against them. Perhaps my distorted view of these majestic creatures is because I was allergic to all dairy products as a child.

Vegetarian Butcher Stacking Doll

I did this commission for a Stacking fan a little while ago. He asked for a vegetarian butcher. To emphasize the PURE TERROR caused by the butcher, I included a little cowering broccoli doll with a vegan afro.I also snuck in some celery eyebrows and a carrot nose for the butcher.

Beer-Guzzling Pseudo-Jock Asshole Dude

Oh, 1989, how I remember you. You were clearly the inspiration for this creature in Pettyland.

Richard Weed

Another Pettyland card.

Little known fact: Caligula was the name of the pseudo-punk band I was in during High School. Other little known fact: we never performed. We did, however, write lots of terrible songs and come up with several "concept albums", including a whole album devoted to Fresno. Devoted is perhaps the wrong term. What we did is take popular songs at the time with the word "hell" in them and swap it for the word "Fresno". Like "Fresno's Bells" or "Fresno is for Children". Yup a whole album.

Monster Faces

My dad likes monsters, dragons and Big Daddy Roth. He keeps asking me to do a painting for him with some monster heads. So I've been doodling some here and there and will hopefully eventually wind up with something interesting enough to develop further. Here are a few of these charming fellows.

Family Tree

I did a little painting for a show called "A Moment of..." that just opened last Saturday. It's a group show curated by the fantastic Ruel Pascual and all of the pieces are themed around the idea of a "memorable moment" in life. This piece is 8"x10" and gouache on printmaking paper. Random Doodles

I've been busy lately. I was scanning some things for work and saw some random doodles on the pages that weren't work related. So I thought I should post SOMETHING. So we've got some nut crackers, a middle-manager shark boss, tentacles and SKULLMELIA DEADHEART.

Psychotic Girlfriend!

Another Pettyland illustration. I think I'm about to start getting into the cards that are in "bad taste" section of the game. My excuse is that I was only 18 when I designed this game. And it was the 80's. Always the 80's.

Pirate Face Sculpt

A quick little Z-brush sculpt. I rarely post these little speed sculpts, but I was tired of looking at Pettyland cards. I built this in zbrush from a simple sphere using the fantastic Dynamesh function to keep the topology good.

Fascist Pig

The ubiquitous cop mustache is paired with a Robocop-esque frame in this charming Pettyland card.

Another Pettyland card. Apologies to yet another high school friend of mine for a demeaning illustration. But I think it would be pretty cool to have a nose flute.
