Super Duper Friends

I did a piece for a Hanna Barbera tribute show at Van Eaton Galleries. I grew up watching and loving many Hanna Barbera cartoons, but one of my favorites was the Super Friends. I always liked the stranger side characters. Characters like the Black Vulcan, Samurai, Apache Chief, El Dorado and others. 

It was until I was an adult that I realized that Alex Toth was the production designer on the show and also designed these characters. I was an attempt, albeit a bad one, to make the show feel more "ethnically diverse". But, to the 8 year old me, they were just cool characters I had never seen before.

Below are a few sketches I did and the final piece, which was done in ink (brush, pen, brush pen) and watercolor.
