Winterbolt

I did this little gouache painting for a group show at Van Eaton Galleries on Villains. I chose Winterbolt because I love Rankin and Bass and he had a great villain voice.

The Radiation Symbol

Another playable character in Pettyland. The Radiation Symbol is the most extreme "conscious mind" character in the game. Because the Radiation Symbol's special abilities let him drain health from potentially multiple opponents in one turn, he tends to chase the other characters around the board; however, he is pretty much limited to the conscious mind because he loses health in the subconscious mind.

Dots, the most extreme "subconscious mind" character in the game, often cooperates with the Radiation Symbol in an attempt for both of them to meet their personal goals. Since Dots' goal is to LOSE health and the Radiation Symbol's goal is to DRAIN health, the two often meet in one of the two neutral spaces that connect the subconscious mind to the conscious mind to do their dirty business.

Train Track Pad Sketches

Recently, I've been using the trackpad on my Mac Book to try and create some little thumbnail compositions while I ride the train home. Its both incredibly frustrating and very interesting. I'm constantly struggling to do what I want to do, but at the same time just being very minimal with the design and shapes has also been a lot of fun.

These are done in Photoshop CC and typically take 20-40 minutes.

Blue Balls, Backmasking & Finals

That can only mean more Pettyland cards! Its been a while since I've had a chance to do another set. The biggest challenge with this batch was figuring out how to illustrate something like Blue Balls...tastefully. I looked to Franz Kline for inspiration.

Also, if you're into that sort of thing, I set up a Facebook page for all things Pettyland: https://www.facebook.com/PettylandGame

The Pancreas

The Pancreas is one of the two "neutral" characters in Pettyland, owing allegiance to neither the conscious or subconscious mind. The Pancreas has been the character that has changed the most over the years. Originally, its goal was random, but this meant that the other characters didn't have a specific, meaningful way of interacting with it, so that goal changed. Its goal then became to "eat" face-up cards on the board, which caused interesting conflict with the other players, but slowed the game down too much. So here it is again, with a brand new ability and goal -- simply to fight the other characters using standard combat (also known as a "Balls Brawl" in Pettyland).

No other character in the game specifically focuses on this task, so it should be interesting to explore. Also, its new Bi-Polarity special ability can be used to help or hurt many of the other characters, so it should create some interesting potential for alliances/enemies.

Super Sauce

This is a lil' painting I did for the Moonslyvania show at Van Eaton Galleries, which opened last night. Its small (8.5"x11"); gouache and pencil on printmaking paper. Its a tribute show to Jay Ward, so I did a Super Chicken image! Check all of the pieces out here: http://www.vegalleries.com/moosylvania.html

The Clone

Another Pettyland character card. The Clone is the first of three characters associated with the conscious mind. The Clone is a great beginning player character to play, with a very straight forward goal. Object cards are generally very easy to come by, so the Clone's starting Sanity score is a bit low to balance that out (The Clone uses his Sanity score to pickpocket other players).

Dots

Another character from Pettyland. Like the Experienced Thinker, this character is aligned with the Subconscious Mind. Dots is a strange character to play, as he is trying to "kill himself", so he tends to run around the board and happily jump on the most dangerous creatures and fight the most powerful players.
